For the 2024-25 season we are issuing a series of challenges to our Guild members to encourage participation in many small facets of the Guild that will hopefully lead to more engagement in some of our larger projects. Many Guild members mentioned at our first meeting that they didn't have the time or didn't wish to make large quilts all the time and wanted things they could tackle and finish in a few hours, a day, or a weekend. With this in mind this page will bring all of the years challenges together with instructions, photos and where to bring items that are for a community outreach challenge. Do one or do them all, it's your choice but have fun and be sure to bring items into the Guild meeting for show and tell !

Also be sure to check the Newsletter and our facebook page for details and pictures as well.

Challenge 2: Vice President’s Challenge : LOGO twist

Finished block to be 8" - Due at December meeting.
Our DPQG logo the Briar Rose in yellow on a field of turquoise blue replaced our original logo in 1997-98 and was designed by Kym Ranger. There are no thoughts to replace this logo but I want to see what our members can design in their own interpretation of our logo. Using ONLY the colours of the logo, design and sew your take, it can be thread painting, abstract, paper piecing, felted, crumb or scrap, it doesn't even need to look anything like the logo. The colours need to be from the logo - yellow, brown, turquoise, gold, and teal ( or green if that's what you see in the logo) but otherwise the design is yours. You have until the December meeting to finish your block and bring it in. This should be a quick sew to get you into quilting mode for the winter and a fun way to try a new technique or try your hand at designing. You may do more than one block, the more the merrier ! Blocks received will be used in a quilt.
I can't wait to see what you all come up with! Barb Redford - Vice President

Challenge 1: Community Outreach Placemat Challenge- every year we aim to donate 100 placemats to Meals on Wheels. Placemats need to have one side with a Christmas themed fabric or design and the other side with the makers choice. Placemats should be approximately 12x18, quilted to lay flat and bound/completed. Bring placemats to the Guild meeting for collection at the October meeting as they are distributed by November. Placemats can be made throughout the year but we want to reach our 100 for 2024 so lets all do a few !

UPDATE - We reached 100 placemats ! Great work everyone there were some amazing fabrics and designs. Thanks for making the first challenge a success !
