Over the past 25 years the Guild and the Stitch & Share Group have donated bed quilts and quilted wall hangings to a number of Community organizations to be used in their fund-raising events or to display on their walls.
A wall hanging for the Dr Andrew C. Vermeer Chemotherapy Suite at Headwaters Health Care Centre – The project was proposed as a community project by Eileen Dahl Vermeer and was led by the Guild’s Afternoon Stitch & Share Group. It took two years to complete. The wall hanging was long arm quilted by Lisa Seinen. “Neighbours & Friends” quilt was design by Rosemary Makham and assembled by the Guild. Presented to Dufferin Community Living at the June 2009 meeting. L to R: Janet Slater-Guild member, Sheryl Chandler-staff member and Fran Cronwright-raffle quilt winner.
The Guild made a second “Neighbours & Friends” quilt and presented it to Hospice Caledon in support of Bethel House April 20th, 2009.
“In Our Neighbourhood” quilt was completed by the Afternoon Stitch & Share Group using the leftover house blocks and presented to the Meridian Credit Union in 2009 as a “Thank You” for the use of the Meridian Boardroom for its weekly Wednesday afternoon meetings and the Guild’s business meetings. The Meridian then donated the quilt to the Dufferin County Museum & Archives which used it as a fund-raiser in a raffle.
Birds & Buds quilt was designed and pieced by members of the Guild, quilted by Cheryl Westlake and presented to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orangeville in June 2009 to use as a Raffle Quilt. The Guild published the pattern for this quilt and a copy is filed in the Archives.
The Afternoon Stitch & Share Group pieced this “Storm at Sea” quilt and was quilted by Janet Slater. It was donated to the Friends of Island Lake for their Conservation Gala Auction that raised funds for the environmental projects and programs of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority. Members of the friends group holding the quilt are Wayne White and Jane Lightle at the December 2014 Guild meeting.
Dufferin Child & Family Services held a fundraising event for several years called Wellies for Wishes. In 2015 Community Projects Committee took on a project of making the Wellie quilt blocks hoping attendees at the event would pay for a signature on the blocks. Trish McKibbon made the majority of the blocks.
Some of the signed blocks were sewn into banner style wall hangings which were given to major sponsors of DCAFS. Leftover blocks were assembled into a small quilt which was given to a DCAFS employee when she left the agency. She was one of the major organizers of the Wellies event.
Garden of Friends and Flowers. The Afternoon Stitch & Share made this quilt in support of the “Celebration of Survivors” for the auction at Stratford in 2003. Each person made a 12- inch square flower block for the quilt as well as 12 smaller blocks so that we could all have a wall hanging to remember this group effort. Guild member, Liz Nash, purchased the quilt. All these quilts hung in the 2004 Magic of Cloth Act II Quilt Show.
